Rock & Root Magazine was a project that focused on trail running in Appalachia.
The project gave me an opportunity to photograph myself trail running in some of my favorite environs in Southwestern PA throughout the seasonal transition from fall to winter.
Here I created an identity system for the publication. Collateral includes the identity, page layouts, an invitation and media kit.

This logo gave me an opportunity to do a an in depth study of the underrated typographic ligature, the ampersand. I also got the opportunity to find a sans serif/serif combination that worked well together. The differing elevation of each word represents terrestrial and subterranean nature of each feature respectively.
